Privacy Policy

BoardWithin respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the BoardWithin mobile application (the “App”) and related services.
Information We Collect
BoardWithin is designed to minimize the collection of personal information. The current version does not require a user account and does not directly collect personal information such as your name, email address, physical address, phone number, contacts, or precise location through the App.
Training and Progress Data
BoardWithin stores information related to your use of the App, including training progress, completed levels, attempts, accuracy, response times, streaks, puzzle progress, and Blindfold Score and Recognition Score information. This information is stored locally on your device and is used to provide App functionality, track your progress, and personalize your training experience. BoardWithin does not currently transmit this training and progress information to BoardWithin servers.
Your Games and Positions
The App also stores saved Blindfold Games and mate-training exercises, imported PGN games and FEN positions, custom board setups and drafts, mistake-review schedules, and daily-session progress locally on your device. Imported game text may contain player names or other details you choose to paste; these are user-provided content, not information required to create an account. These saved training items are not uploaded to a BoardWithin analysis service.
Microphone and Speech Recognition
BoardWithin includes an optional Voice Mode that allows users to speak chess coordinates, pieces, and moves. When Voice Mode is used, BoardWithin requests permission to access your device’s microphone and Apple’s Speech Recognition services.
Microphone access is used only while voice functionality is active for the purpose of recognizing your spoken chess responses. BoardWithin does not independently record, retain, or store your microphone audio.
Speech recognition is provided using Apple’s speech-recognition technologies. Depending on your device, operating system, language, and availability of on-device speech recognition, speech processing may occur on your device or may be processed by Apple. Apple’s handling of information through its services is governed by Apple’s applicable privacy policies and terms.
You may deny or revoke microphone and speech-recognition permissions through your device’s Settings. BoardWithin’s non-voice training features can still be used without Voice Mode.
Analytics, Advertising, and Tracking
The current version of BoardWithin does not include third-party advertising networks or third-party analytics SDKs. BoardWithin does not use your information for cross-app or cross-website advertising tracking and does not sell your personal information.
Device Permissions
Microphone: Used to receive spoken answers when Voice Mode is active.
Speech Recognition: Used to convert spoken chess coordinates, pieces, and moves into text so the App can evaluate your response.
BoardWithin does not currently request access to your contacts, photos, camera, or precise location as part of its core functionality.
Local Data Storage
Training statistics, preferences, progress, and related App information may be stored locally on your device. Because this information is stored locally, deleting the App or clearing its associated data may permanently remove your locally stored BoardWithin progress.
Third-Party Services
BoardWithin uses technologies and services provided by Apple as part of the iOS platform, including microphone/audio functionality and Speech Recognition. Your use of Apple services may be subject to Apple’s own privacy policies and terms.
Children’s Privacy
BoardWithin is a chess-training application intended for a general audience. BoardWithin does not knowingly collect personal information directly from children through the current version of the App. Because the App does not currently require an account and does not directly collect names, email addresses, or similar identifying information, users can access the core training experience without providing this information to BoardWithin.
If future versions introduce features that collect personal information, this Privacy Policy will be updated as appropriate.
Data Sharing and Sale
BoardWithin does not sell or rent personal information to third parties. Because the current version does not operate a BoardWithin user-account system or transmit locally stored training data to BoardWithin servers, BoardWithin does not currently share that training data with advertisers or data brokers. Information processed through Apple services is subject to Apple’s applicable policies.
Data Security
BoardWithin is designed to minimize privacy risks by limiting the personal information collected and keeping current training and progress information locally on the user’s device. No electronic system can be guaranteed to be completely secure, and users should maintain appropriate security protections on their devices.
Your Privacy Choices
You control whether BoardWithin may access your microphone and Speech Recognition. These permissions can be reviewed or changed through the privacy settings on your Apple device. If permission is disabled, features requiring voice recognition may not function, but other BoardWithin functionality may remain available.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
BoardWithin may update this Privacy Policy as the App develops, including if new features, online services, accounts, analytics, subscriptions, or other data-processing functions are introduced. When material changes are made, the Effective Date at the top of this Privacy Policy will be updated.
